The season asks two different things of us. Some winters you are here and want the week to work. Other winters you are not here at all, and the property has to get through it without you.
Bansko runs from late December to late March, and in a good year into April. What that season means for you depends on whether you are in it.
If you are here, the constraint is time. The days are short, the good ones are unpredictable, and an afternoon spent waiting for a plumber or chasing a table is an afternoon off the mountain. What we do in that case is ordinary and practical: we take the arrangements off your hands so the week belongs to you.
If you are not here, the constraint is distance. The property is closed, the heating is on a setting nobody has checked since autumn, and the building is quiet for weeks at a time. Most winter damage in Bansko is not dramatic. It is small, slow and unwitnessed.
It is not the frost that does the damage. It is the weeks in which nobody notices it.

Winter cover is agreed in autumn, because most of it has to be done before the first hard frost. Guest arrangements can be made at shorter notice, but the good weeks in Bansko fill early.
